My Experience with Nomad: (better) eSIM vs. Airalo

Traveling often comes with its own set of challenges, and finding a reliable and affordable eSIM provider can be one of them. Having tried both Nomad and Airalo, I can confidently say that Nomad delivers a significantly better experience. Here's why:

  1. Streamlined Activation Process

One of the standout features of Nomad is how seamless the activation process is. With Nomad, the eSIM connects to the local network automatically, allowing you to activate it even before reaching your destination. This feature saves you from the hassle of fumbling with settings upon arrival. In contrast, Airalo's eSIMs usually are activated after reaching your destination, which provides some uncertainty if the activation was done correctly.

  1. Better User Interface

Nomad’s app interface is a joy to use. The design is intuitive, making it easy to navigate through settings, monitor your data usage, and manage your plans. While Airalo’s UI is functional, Nomad’s sleek and user-friendly interface offers a superior experience—at least for now.

As you can see I've activated the eSIM, however, the timer doesn't start until you reach the destination country OR the predefined start date.

  1. Cheaper Pricing

In addition to offering a better overall experience, Nomad is currently more affordable. Saving money while getting better service? It’s a no-brainer. At least for now.

Comparing USA pricing, the most expensive plan for Nomad is priced at US$1.40/GB while AirAlo is at US$4.50/GB. Wow.

  1. My Positive Experience in Korea

I had an incredible experience using Nomad during my trip to Korea. The eSIM activated effortlessly as soon as I landed, and I was connected to the local network in no time.

  1. How to Get Started with Nomad

If you’re ready to give Nomad a try, you can download their app and use my referral code KQRMVPANVZ for additional savings.

Instructions to Redeem the Referral Code

To apply the referral code, follow these steps:

  1. At checkout, look for the field labeled "Add Promo Code."

  2. Enter KQRMVPANVZ and ensure the code is valid. It will automatically save to your profile and apply to your order.

  3. Alternatively, go to My Account > Promos and enter the referral code there to save it to your profile for future use.

Please note: Referral codes cannot be applied retroactively to purchases you’ve already made.

Once your purchase is complete, your friend (me!) will receive a one-time Reward Promo code for future discounts.

Final Thoughts

While AirAlo still works fine, the combination of easier activation, better UI, and cheaper pricing makes Nomad my current favourite for an eSIM provider. If you're looking for a reliable and hassle-free way to stay connected while traveling, I highly recommend giving Nomad a try. Even if you haven't tried an eSIM before. Don’t forget to use my referral code for some extra savings!
